M135i + M235i MPE WILL fit M140i + M240i

Post by cotswoldbmwmini »

Morning all,

I have just received a confirmation Email from BMW Product Marketing that confirms the M135i MPE WILL fit the M140i

The main difference apparently is the M Performance Logo

Obviously BMW still want us to fit the specific exhausts to the right cars but I know what I would be doing

+2 - good news Phil for those wanting a cheaper OEM alternative for MPE.

Do you know if or when F3x MPPSK midpipe back system may be available separately to order ? I'd fit one of those to my m135i in a heart beat !!

Phil - OK and thanks. Knowing that M240i and 340i MPE's are same part numbers, I think BMW are missing a trick by not offering the midpipe 2 valve exhaust standalone or full MPPSK to it's m240i customers.....

Dom,

Yes - M235i MPE has valve in LHS tailpipe whereas M240i MPE has no valve. So, as far as sound goes, maybe similar if M235i MPE valve left is set open position.

Excuse my ignorance, but what difference does the closed valve make? Presumably quietens things down on startup?

Dom - valve is mainly to cut drone inherent in straight sixes at abt 2k rpm - high gear low rpm pull you might hear/feel slight boom sound at about 2k rpm. Closed valve deals with this v well compared to open valve. BP

Cool, cheers. So presumably BMW don't feel the valve is necessary for the 240 then?

Dom - presume not given that midpipe has pucker silencer as well as small resonator [n55 has just resonator]. I've read feedback from F3x B58 owners with MPPSK with "full" exhaust setup, which includes unsilenced/non-resonated midpipe, mentioning MPPSK drones more than stock setup.....

Man, they don't make it easy do they! I'm inclined to go with the recommend MPE for the car, surely they know what they're doing?!

Yes - I'd be inclined to agree with you. Mine sounded so much better going from stock to MPE back box [one of the 1st v2 types apparently] and then it improved again when I upgraded DP.

No drone here BTW and, with Jb4, I have canflap control so can open/close LH tailpipe valve as and when.
