M Sport suspension retrofit coding.

Post by david in germany » Mon Sep 17, 2018 6:45 am

I my e87 118i I have always been irritated with the way the car drove as it always seemed a bit nervous on the autobahn. It felt twitchy and over sensitive in the steering. Yesterday I was messing around with Ista-p and saw retrofit M-sport suspension. Since I have the car on Bilstein B8s and BMW Performance springs I let it run the coding. Today, what a difference! The steering is so much better than before, like I have wanted it to be for years. I have always compared it to my e90s m-sport steering and thought the difference was just that it was an E87 and that is how it is. But now, I am pleased! :spotman:

After the fact my computer did a forced restart and now ista can't find its files anymore... No more ista coding until I can get that worked out..

This is really interesting. Does ISTA tell you which modules it coded for this? Would be great to find out exactly what changed using NCS.

If i remember correctly it coded 3 modules. Once I get my Ista back up I will see if I can pull the plan up again for you.

Question.

If somebody was to put MSport struts and Eibach Pro springs on their e87 which was an SE, they should code the car to tell it it is on MSport suspension?

From my recent expirence, oh hell yes! The coding has transformed the feel of the car 100%. I think it would improve the feel of a stock SE.

I have my Ista running again but I could not pull up the history. I think it was DSC, FRM and CAS. Ista does an electronic reset of the steering position sensor as well.

Interesting but think all it could alter is steering assistance level maybe?

How would you describe the change? Heavier or lighter at speed? Heavier or lighter when parking?

Can you describe "transformed the feel of the car"? I wouldn't mind a lighter steering when parking or slow moves, especially a 3 point turn

I have searched on google and havent seen anybody else mention this on an e_ _ car

I've seen loads of things about adaptive steering however our cars don't have this.

I will try to explain it.
At slower speeds it is still seemingly light but as the speed increases the steering feels more heavy. Before it was simply too light hence the "nervous" feel. It seemed like bumps pulled the car now it feels more planted.
