ISTA Help Please

Post by JammyB »

Hi

Could someone help me, I'm trying to read fault codes with ISTA for the first time

Settup:

E82 125i LCI

This cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1
K+DCAN USB no switch
unnamed.jpg
unnamed.jpg (99.39 KiB) Viewed 609 times
Installed this version of ISTA: https://mega.nz/folder/0l5XkCja#hhmwooD ... r/hoxnSIBY
Launching: C:\EC-APPS\ISTA\TesterGUI\bin\Release\ISTAGUI.exe

Set Vehicle Interface to Edibas default settings (edibas.ini)

plugged in lead and turned the ignition on. got a big "!" on the dash, is that normal?

3.jpg (54.23 KiB) Viewed 609 times
Ran: Operations - Read Out Vehicle Data - Complete Identification

ISTA returned the message:
"
The Vehical Could not Be Identified Successfully check vehical interface and 'PAD active'
"
4.jpg
4.jpg (69.3 KiB) Viewed 609 times
I read elswhere that a line in C:\EC-APPS\ISTA\Ediabas\BIN\EDIBAS.INI can need changing from
Interface = Remote
to
Interface = STD:OBD

So I made that change and ran again, this time when I run Operations - Read Out Vehicle Data - Complete, It asks for the VIN to be entered to continue;

which I did then I get the same message:
"
The Vehical Could not Be Identified Successfully check vehical interface and 'PAD active'
"

I dont want to be hacking around blindly so any advise from you guys would be much appreciated

JammB doesn't know what a swirl flap is, but since joining babybmw he lays awake at night worrying about them.

Look at your Ethernet connections, and make sure you only have one there (the one you're connecting to the car over). I had a spurious looped ethernet connection there that was upsetting the apple cart.
Follow all other advice about connection types in the setting menu, i.e....
Spanner icon (administration) > Vehicle Interface
Make sure Dealer Organisation ICOM/ENET and ISIS Network is ticked.

I'm using a USB K+DCAN cable.
Should I be using ethernet on an E82 2010?

Oops sorry, I was going on my Fxx config.
Have a look at this thread, specifically the bottom post of Page 2. There are 2 Ediabas.ini files to edit.

Did you get this working?
If not, have you installed bmw tools first?

does your connector got a switch like mine ? because i had the same problem , cars before 2006 use less pins than the 2006+ .... my 1st connector didnt have the switch so it was compatible with cars manufactured after 2006 only . with this one you can use it on all models .... copied from another post To carry out diagnostic measures with BMW cars from 2007, the following condition must be met: there must be no connections 7 and 8 pin of the diagnostic block of the scanner.

On BMW cars manufactured before 2007, 7 and 8 pin contacts / pins of the adapter are used for diagnostic procedures, so you need a connection between these pins of the scanner diagnostic block.
