e87 PreLCI - lights on/off with engine, coding possible?

Post by doubledot » Mon Jan 29, 2018 7:51 am

Heya,

I own a 116i 2004 e87, at the time one of the simplest / cheapest versions. No heated mirrors, leather, EC mirror or cruise control - so also no halo's / DRL's or automatic headlights. Although they look cool, I am used to drive with my dip's on every second so no problem there. However, having the headlamp-switch turned to position 2 (dip), the parking lights stay on and I get a notification when turning off the engine.

Is it possible to recode with Carly to have them switch on & off with the engine and just leave the switch in position 2? I have found many options around DRL's and customisation of those but since I only have the regular halogen's I do not think these options make a difference for me..

Pretty sure you can’t do what you want with Carly.

Position 1 is sidelights and driving panel display lights (and possibly I think registration plate lights) position 2 is main beam on. You can code to have sidelights as DRL’s with the light switch off but not the other way around.

I think you'll only have the FRM 1 on a 2004, which doesn't allow you to do anything very clever.

You need an FRM2 or FRM3. This can be purchased used from Quarry Motors or other similar breakers yard. Install, program FRM and code car.

Google ‘upgrade from frm1 to frm3’ lots of info available.

strange, my 55 plate E91 was billy basic spec, and with the light switch in the dipped beam section, it wouldn't leave any lights on after removing the key from the ignition...
