When I first plug it in, all the lights flash once. Then just the red battery light stays on.

I had this with mine yesterday (first time use) - turn off, removed, locked car and tried again and it worked... wasn't sure what the problem was but worked okay...

Does your phone detect the dongle wifi?

No. Doesn't detect wifi or Bluetooth.

What order did you plug in/turn ignition on/turn engine on/try to connect?

the attempt that worked for me was having the engine running and then plugging in the dongle. i had turned off wifi on my iPhone and then turned that back on once i had inserted the dongle. it found the gate wifi but took a few goes to get it to connect, then opened up bimmercode and it worked okay (disconcerting when the engine turns off and instruments reset!!).

I did mine again - took few attempts on dongle - yellow triangle/exclamation mark on wifi screen on phone. Tried connecting with BimmerCode and worked after a few tries...

I must be doing something wrong with this.

I've now got a second dongle. Bluetooth only though.

Press the power button and nothing happens. Again.

It's not a wifi adaptor. Bluetooth only.

Ah, I see you did say that.
My VGate adaptor will only work via Wi-Fi which I believe is the preferred/only method of using them is it not or am I wrong with that?

I'm sure more knowledgeable users will expand on this.

The fact that with carly you can only use a wifi adapter when using an iOS device I'd say that as bimmercode is an iOS only app then you'll need a wifi adapter to connect to the car not a Bluetooth.

That may be the case.

Still doesn't help solve the issue of the dongle not connecting via Bluetooth.
