I would love to order one, however the wife thinks its too small. Even though she has her own car that we use on the weekends with the baby. I've tried a dealership to see if i could get a M140i for a 24hr test drive so i can convince her that it meets our requirements, for our day to day lives but to no avail. We have a 11 month old baby and the baby seat fits fine in the back. I think i have to resign myself to missing out. I have no interest in a 4 pot 1 Series.Life sucks sometimes. I had the colour, trim and all the options already picked out. Sigh.
I've just bought one, moving on from an E91 335i, which worked exceptionally well as a fast, fun, family car. My kids are 7 and 5.

It's a bit tight in the back. More so than I thought it would be - we went to the dealership with our car seats just to fit them into a bog standard 5 door 1 series and it seemed fine at the time, but now that we've got it, both of the kids pretty much have their feet on the seat backs.

Personally, I've not really bonded with the car that much yet - probably because I'm very aware that the kids aren't that comfortable. But I've only done 1200 miles, so we'll see whether that changes over time.

I'd suggest just trying to get a normal 1 series on an extended test drive.

The 1-Series, for obvious reasons, is not a practical hatchback for use as a main family car.

My Skoda Fabia which I have just sold is a class below in size and is even 30cm/11inches shorter than the 1-Series but has more leg, shoulder and head room.

We wouldnt be using the 1 series as a main family car, we have a golf for that. It would be my car to go to work and back and potentially nursery pickups and drop offs on the days missus cant do them.

I went down to a dealership yesterday and tried our cybex 0-4 baby seat in the back of the 1 series. Rear ward facing baby seat means that the passenger side front seat has to be pulled forward. Missus wasn't with me so I'm not sure if she'd have enough legroom to be comfortable for the times we were in the car altogether. Once I can switch the seat to forward facing I think things would improve slightly though I suspect there would be alot of kicking of the passenger seat from my daughter, due to how close her seating position would be to the passenger seat.

I saw a stunning metallic sunset orange m140i, absolutely gorgeous car. Interesting the dealer i spoke to tried to convince me that sunset orange and cognac interior was a bad idea. I thought the few examples I had seen looked quite nice on various forums. The finance deal he offered me made me realise why so many people rate TRL and berry BMW. Their finance offer was nowhere near what's proposed on these forums by TRL.

Still in two minds about the car, I really do love that b58 6 cylinder engine. I know I could go for a used 340i as it has the same engine, but even used they are very pricey.

You will get kicking in any car unless it's a Maybach, S600 Pullman or Phantom Extended wheelbase. What matter is that your partner or you can sit comfortably without pushing your seats into the knees of you daughter in the back.

In our second car my daughter sits in an non-isofix highback booster seats which give leg lots more room to wiggle her feet compared with in the X3 where she sits in an isofix Joie 360. I have zero worries about her comfort in M140i when I will drive her to nursery in it.

Going to make myself sound stupid here, but I need to learn so if someone could please educate me?

List Price £37,800
Dealer Contribution - £6330
BMW Contribution - £4000
(Lower deposit scheme) Deposit - £372

Leaves a balance of £27,098, which would be the amount we are borrowing at 4.9% which means the amount we are borrowing is £29,895.41 (give or take)

If the final payment is £13,513.33, subtracted from the amount we are borrowing 29,895.41 give us £16,382.08 spread over 47 equal payments which works out to be £348.55 instead of £372.61? (£24.06 difference per month)

Obviously the math is a miss, or I'm missing some vital component here?

It’s the phasing of the interest. Your interest is higher at the front end as you are financing the £27k. Model
Also assume you will pay the balance £13k at the end.
Your interest looks low to start off with, how many years is the deal over?

Your calculations assume the period is only 12 months. You need to factor that there's money owed across 4 years (longer period = more interest to pay).

And that you are paying off the difference between the price and the gfv and it’s interest only on the gfv.

I was told the two elements that don't count towards the tax threshold are the first years road tax which is currently £530 (was £515), and the first registration fee which is £55.

Based in this current absolute maximum would be £40,584 but was £40,569 before rise in first year car tax in April.

I just took delivery of one which currently lists at £40,580 on the configurator and it is showing as under the threshold.

Cheers

Yep spot on.
There has been a price increase to the delivery charges from 1st June which does have a bearing though.

the delivery charge went up £95 to £825

So until the configurator is updated on 1st June you actually need to spec you car to a maximum on the road price of £40,489 to be 100% safe
unless your car can be registered by 31st May.

Hmmm that’s interesting/scary.

Mines £40,559.99, was confirmed that the £50 fuel, £55 first registration fee and £530 tax would come off leaving me at £39,924.99.

My car is due latest 10th June so with the extra £85 I’m potentially £9.99 over and looking at £320 a year more tax!

Wonder where I stand with this... deal breaker for me if it tips over.

Fingers crossed you will be alright.

The best way to save money on an M140i is by not spending £900 professional media and simply picking up a mint 8.8 inch screen on eBay for £250 which is what I will do. If

Fitting one is plug and play and together with coding two lines take less than 30min. Anyone can do it.

LCI has rendered Pro Media a rip off because CarPlay and Android Auto aren't included. Most importantly the standard infotainment now has the same head unit and features the following which we're exclusive to Pro Media before LCI.

Large iDrive rotary dial
Black panel display
Navigation
Real time traffic updates
Remote Services
Tele Service
Online Services

Basically it's not worth paying £900 for a cosmetic upgrade that can be retrofitted for £250. If I hand the car back to BMW I will simply put 6.5 inch screen back and sell the 8.8 on ebay for £250 and get my money back
