BCS Powervalve Exhaust Review

Post by MorganM135i » Fri May 27, 2016 4:52 pm

I've had the BCS Powervalve on my car for a few weeks now, and I know they've been done before, but I thought I'd write my own mini review :)

Firstly, I just want to say a big thank you to Nige and the team at BCS for making such a well made and professional piece of kit! It really is miles better than the standard set up and the MPE in terms of build quality. I had the exhaust shipped down to Plymouth where I'm working at the moment, and had it fitted at a local BMW specialist garage. Surprisingly, it was the first BCS exhaust they had fitted, but they were very impressed with it!

Aesthetically, it completely improves and transforms the rear end of the car and really makes it look like the hot/mega hatch that the car is. I have the 100mm ceramic black rolled edge tips and they look fantastic!

Right, onto the real reason I wanted the exhaust... The sound! :D When I first test drove my car before purchasing back in December, I completely fell in love with it and I knew I was going to be parting with my hard earned cash. But I also knew I had to change 3 things about the car before it would be the complete package. I hated the original alloys, so they were first to go. Secondly, the ride height and body roll needed sorting, so springs were fitted. Finally, the exhaust was way too quiet, so I started to shop around and eventually decided on the BCS.

Wow, and what a difference it makes too! NOTE: I've done the very simple exhaust mod using a 6mm collar clamp to hold open the valve actuator arm permanently rather than it opening only when on boost (as mentioned in a previous post by copperman) This just simply gives more noise/roar/pops/bangs/head turns :D It makes a lovely sound on the upshift and crackles on almost every downshift. Perfect :D

All in all, I'm completely happy with the BCS Powervalve and I only regret not having one sooner :)

Nige's customer service is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate recommending him if you're looking to upgrade the exhaust on your mlite

I've attached a pic and a video clip. Apologies for the shoddy camerawork (you'll see what I mean!) but you get the jist

Good flow obviously as one blip of the throttle put the camera on its back.

Thanks guys :D

I got out the car and saw the camera on it's back and was like :censored: haha

It came in at just under 1k including delivery which was a saving of around £150 with the help of the forum members discount Nige so kindly gave me :fest:

It is slightly on the pricey side compared to say the MPE, but like everyone knows, you get what you pay for

BCS gets a massive thumbs up from me, love it, the last owner who put it on my car had really good taste, 1 of 2 reasons why I bought my car!!!!

Sounds great, tip size looks a bit big for me id prefer the oem look in that respect.

How do they hold up in comparison to the bad pitting of oem tailpipes?

100% agreed shins. Loving your signature by the way!

Terry, you can get 90mm tips with a straight cut similar to the originals if you prefer the oem look. And only had it on a few weeks, but no pitting whatsoever at the moment. Hopefully it stays that way :P

Good to hear, I'm still running the 2'er in and I was looking at the MPE but this does indeed sound quite a bit meatier :)

Would look class on your SB 2'er! Especially if you go for the black tips :D like you said BCS barks and growls, whereas the MPE is a lot more raspier. Depends on what kind of sound/look you want to go for :)

I think some people are drawn to the MPE because it's a genuine Beemer product, and might be slightly hesitant taking the plunge on anything else. Shame really

....and as you can see from copperman's video... Epic! :P

Is the BCS much louder than the MPE (valves not modified)?

It's quieter when not on the throttle. Then as revs increase the valves open and it's a fair bit louder than the MPE. So pootling about its very much like stock but when you open the throttle all hell breaks loose!
