M2 DCT options

Post by mikeyscott » Tue Mar 20, 2018 6:13 pm

Starting to look at M2s for a hopeful purchase later this year / summer. I'm looking at M2 DCT and don't want black, but any must have / recommended options re the M2. Do they all come with the pro media etc.

If you are after a new one later this year, you will only be able to order the M2 Competition as it replaces the current M2 model..

Details of this car will be announced in the Beijing motor show I believe but rumoured to be around £5k more than current model.

Are you after ordering a new one or wanting to get a used or pre registered current M2?

Looking at 16 plate used cars.

It’ll be that or a Cayman S I think.

Pro media is standard
Very few options available in all honesty with the M2
I went for DCT, H&K sound, heated seats and then everything else was non essential to me.
One thing I regret is electric adjustable seats as they raise the seat up by about an inch from standard

I have H&K, folding mirrors, electric seats, heated seats, rear park assist and reversing camera.

I could probably do without reversing camera (unless you've had one before and are used to using it), and could probably do without electric seats but they are a very nice to have with the memory position especially in a coupe letting people out of the back etc.

H&K is also a must if you like your music while driving

As what has been said, not that many essentials but personally I wouldn't be without

1) HK audio, it makes the cabin at least look more premium and it is marginally better than Enhanced
2) Heated seats, if not optioned I understand you have blanking buttons which I imagine looks a bit pants
3) Reversing camera - If you intend to park in a narrow garage it has been a god send as the flared arches front and rear make the car wider than you think.

The Cayman S is a really nice car, I imagine you would be looking at an older one for more money.

I specced:

- Adaptive Icon Headlights
- Sunroof
- Reversing camera
- Heated steering wheel
- Heated seats
- Electric Seats
- HK Speakers
- Folding mirrors
- Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging
- Speed Limit display

What I would choose again:
- Adaptive Icon Headlights
- Sunroof
- Heated Steering Wheel
- Heated Seats
- HK
- Speed Limit Display

What I barely use and find a waste of time/money:
Folding mirrors - because of the stupid way its programmed, the mirrors do not fold when you lock the car. You have to press and hold the button for a few seconds before they actually fold. And the auto dimming function is crap. To the point I've had to get some tape and cover the sensor as I can see bugger all out my rear view mirror and wing mirrors when it activates.

Enhanced Bluetooth - The quality seems great however I don't think it's leaps and bounds better than regular Bluetooth. I almost never use the wireless charging function on my iPhone X as I like to use Waze/Googlemaps over the BMW Nav.

Reversing camera - I specced this just for the sake of it. Never actually use it..

Main one to avoid is the sunroof - you're adding weight high up, so raises the centre of gravity, lose headroom etc etc, rest don't affect the performance of the car, although I agree with the electric seats, I didn't bother for the weight and the fact that they sit higher.

on another note, if I were looking to buy a 2yr old M car, I'd look in to warranties after the 1st yr when the BMW one runs out. I'd be nervous owning an M car out of warranty.

I love a sunroof wouldn't be without it. Is it a must nope, does it add weight, yep. Do I notice the centre of gravity changing and the increase weight..........nope. is the cabin headroom significantly lower, well I am just shy of 6ft and have the higher electric seats and have plenty of room.

I totally agree don't have one if you don't actually want one and save yourself £800 and maybe just maybe you may notice the weight, gravity change on a track day, personally I doubt I would but maybe a purist would.

Just saying.

I have everything apart from comfort access and lane-assist
I'm not fat so I welcome the options/weight to lower the stance

Da irony be dat dem dat wouldnt choose no glassroof n' leccy seats sit so low in their seats dat neitha da heights o' da seats or da roof would make no difference. Besides which, i think they might struggle wit' operatin' da roof. Know What i be sayin bro
