It galls me too, but I knew it was coming but couldn't wait. Been following the 1er and 2er since their launch more than 13 years ago and its the same old thing. All manufacturers are doing across all industries, TVs are worse, they upgrade every year.

I'm satisfied with the M2 LCI I have, picked it up 8 weeks ago. Sure, the M2 Competition will be great. But I will appreciate what I have until I change. I'm tending to keep my cars longer these days (>2 years) so something else new will be available then and will have replaced the M2 Comp.

I'm not rich enough to swap every 6 months, if I could I'd probably spend it on more important things TBH.

You realise BMW are a car business?

This isn't about keeping value in your car. This is about selling good cars. And if it comes that they want to make them better they are entirely within their rights to do so. Cars are depreciating assets.

If you want an investment you are in the wrong place. You should be over at porsche owners club or something similar.
Current: M240i manual EB with cognac.

Very true. Second hand car prices are irrelevant to a car manufacturer, they want to attract a high turnover of new cars to those people that can afford and like to buy their cars brand new as that's what earns them the money. Facelifts and updates is one of the ways to do it, as they know people who can't accept the fact a newer version is out will do just this.

No shame on BMW at all, just business and marketing.

Are BMW going to give us a better choice of colours this time instead of monochrome and turquoise?

What's the relevance in the fact you "buy" and not "lease" your cars? Maybe enjoy what you have rather than not having the latest.

I'm a little confused at the what the issue is? Theres been talk of a CS/CSL/GTS version for over a year. A lot of details have been leaked, i think the only real surprise is the price but given the way the M2 values have started to tumble its still around a £10k uplift and more by the time the first few have been flipped.

I've wanted an M2 since we bought the 63 plate M135i. I paid a bit more for the pre-LCI and all of a sudden its now 2 models old, it's still only 18k miles.

So since learning of the impending M2CP, ive been waiting. But im not buying new, so it will be a while yet before i take a proper look, but the N55 never really appealed tbh, so this will be engine it should have had imo.

I also wonder about residuals, i think the N55 M2 will take a bigger than usual hit in depreciation.

With many or most using a PCP to own the M2 residuals are almost irrelevant due to the very high GFV BMW have set. Equity was never going to be built up with them set the way they are.

I will stick to my usual formula of hoping to retain 50% after 3 years use, from new.
Mine was a late 2016, pre tax increase (over £40k) so was just under £50k OTR. I think similar spec now OTR would be closer to £55k.

So £25k or above in 18 months acceptable.
But I may decide to keep it?
If I was replacing it would almost certainly be for a M2C.

To the OP, I think the only way to not feel 'stiffed' is to get a classic car which may appreciate.

Brand loyalty is a fool's errand anyway.

What’s brand loyalty got to do with it?
F20 M135i - most toys
F80 M3 - even more toys - gone!
F87 M2 - most toys

Did you read the OP's first post? This whole thread is about brand loyalty.

He said he got “hooked” on the brand. I’m hooked too - but that’s because I prefer what BMW has to offer over the rest.

If Audi or Mercedes made a better version of an M2 or M3, I’d probably buy them instead.

As yet, they don’t!
