Sports plus vs MDM programming

Post by sawda » Mon Jun 18, 2018 2:36 pm

Forgive me of this has been covered but could find any info. Was put on track yesterday in MDM mode (ie press and gold to turn off all nannies) and also doing some spirited driving in sports plus. The throttle response is so much more enjoyable in sports plus and hate the way in mdm it reverts to comfort yet on sports plus you still have dsc interfere if you are on track.

My question is has anyone coded this out yet. As love the throttle response in sport plus but no the traction control.

Sawda,

MDM mode is short press of TC button - "Traction" displayed - my understanding is
  • comfort for ePAS & throttle;
  • DCT in sport;
  • M-diff/TC behaviour as sport+
Disabling TC - button press and hold then "DSC off" message -
  • sport throttle;
  • sport plus for DCT, ePAS & M-diff
  • TC - off.

Thanks BP I mean Traction off, so the long press is what I used on track but sports plus actually feels so much better for throttle response, would love to have both.

Best to ask a coding guru or get onto MHD or BM3 tuning forums to ask if custom configuration of comfort/sport/sport+ button is something that's planned for the near future....

Update

Drove home and tried MDM, DSC off and sport plus.

DSC off mode has sport throttle. In current climate it’ll be my mode of choice as ASD and burbles are less than sport plus so I hear more of real n55 MPE’d voice. Sounds superb with MPE valves open or closed.

My 1st response above updated to reflect this evenings findings !!!

For track though sport plus still interferes if you get a bit of oversteer or wheel spinning. Throttle response is great. I have bypassed the ASD anyway so dont get the arcade noise. Seems so weird that BMW programmed it this way.

TBH for track, more linear response of MDM/ comfort - or even DSC off/sport - throttle mode is easier to regulate on- & lift off- throttle to adjust car’s balance - makes perfect sense to me.

in my experience sport plus offers great throttle response and some pretty serious scope to hang the back end out. Don't see the need to turn all the nannies off really.

Hi - the bimmerpost link does not work. What was the conclusion? good mod? I'm more interested in the EPas side actually :)

He's moved onto another world now, as evidenced by his post deletions on here and BP ;)
