Bird Poop!

Post by TM88 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:38 pm

Car was in for it's run in service today and my local dealer doubles up as a seagull sanctuary  in the space of a few hours it has baked on (black car) and left 3 sizable etch marks.

Anyone have any tips for removing these? Tried a light polish, improved slightly but still very visable.

Carefully warm them up with a hairdryer and you might find they disappear.

I spent a couple of hours washing the car at the weekend, just as I'd finished and took a step back, some avian p**k decided they'd defecate right on to the bonnet. I was rather less than impressed.

Etch marks after a couple of hours!?

That doesn't sound right - I've had pterodactyl sh;t on my car for a few days before cleaning it with no marks...

May work.

I have read alternative views on how it damages paintwork, and one suggested that in hot weather the clear coat is very slightly softened and as the day cools it shrinks back. In area's where there is bird crap it wont be able to shrink back properly and ends up with the 'etch' mark.

Cleaning up and then warming the clear coat may have the effect of relaxing it again so that the mark is allowed to flatten out again.

All a bit of a theory though, but maybe worth a go.

Yep I couldn't believe it either. Car was cleaned by myself before it went in and was perfect. Heat was what did it. As we know black cars get hot quick and baked the poop in. I've heard seagull sh*t is the worst in terms of acidity and that place is full of em! Don't really want to heat it up as it's near the rubber seal of the windscreen. I'll give a go with some Meguires scratch x lightly to see if it shifts it.

Put a wet '**SPAM**' towel on it to pre soak for a while depending on poop.
Then it should just rinse of leaving no marks. Especially not after only a few hours.

Managed to removing the etching with Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Used on a microfiber pad, only took 2 applications on each mark actually pretty impressed with the stuff as scratch x didn't touch it. It did marr slightly but came back lovely with a light polish. Finished off with a little wax.

Just posting the outcome in case someone else struggles with these little buggers

I think it is a bit of a historic thing. Used to get a LOT of spam about k1tch3n fitters or something so they banned the word.
