Road Tripping in Germany in my M2 - video

Post by DinoM2 » Sun Feb 03, 2019 10:19 pm

Spent 9 days in Germany over the summer in the M2 including two Nurburgring trackdays and loved every minute.

I thought I'd take some video of the trip so have created a vlog playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... jJguFE3qle

Car was (almost!) faultless and was great fun to spend time in. Managed around 2000 miles or so.

Was a relatively unplanned trip and was a steep learning curve trying to film some of it.

Let me know what you guys think and like if you do and dislike if you don't! Subscribe if you want to see more in future!

Good mini series that I enjoyed it especially seeing what else Germany has to offer other than the ring. Your mate didn’t seem happy when moran gott basically said his car was slow 🤭🙄

Thanks Tom, glad you enjoyed it. I love Germany, it's a great country.

Yes he wasn't too happy but then again his M3 is at the mileage now where it will likely need a headgasket (happens to all of the S54 engines at some point)

That said Moran still managed to do 8m01s lap in it!

Looks great!

I’m planning a road trip from Germany through the alps into Austria over the summer and noticed Sixt offer M2 hire! I’m now just trying to convince myself it’s worth £1000 to hire for two weeks vs £400 for a Golf!!

We are planning a trip to the Alps early July if you fancy joining us? Couple of M2s, an M3 a GT4 and possibly a couple of other cars too.

Awesome, where abouts you heading?

Loosely my plans are fly to Munich around end of June, drive towards the F1 for the Austrian race route TBC then explore back towards Munich via some other route TBC.

If I go M2 over Golf I could meet for a day of blasting through the alps. If I go Golf it may be less fun... ha!

Any good roads in that neck of the woods you could recommend?

We will be in the French/Swiss/Italian Alps.

We did Austria and Munich a few years ago and whilst it was fun we felt it was too far!

Watch out for Sixt!!! In Germany they only include third party insurance in their price. You'll have to allow for fully comprehensive insurance which will be a packet for an M2. And even the fully comp insurance has excess as well. I fell for this just recently and will be back hiring with others and getting separate hire excess insurance, like I used to. Not falling for Sixt advert!

I have an annual excess policy anyway as I tend to hire cars a couple of times a year for holiday so works out cheaper than theirs. I had spotted the 3rd party insurance, seems a bit harsh and it’s not massively obvious so you could easily end up finding you owe Sixt a shiny new M2 if the worst happened what a nightmare that’d be!

Totally, I feel it is a con as most other competitors have comprehensive insurance (with excess) as standard.
If you don't add the comprehensive insurance at the time of booking- you need to do this separately, it's not automatic, Sixt should and will probably warn you when you pick up the car that it does only have third party.
But then you are stuck at the airport and have to pay whatever they quote you.
