Not wanting to open a can of worms, but what if you were in the situation of buying a car that had already been remapped without your knowledge?

My car is 100% legit before anyone asks, I'm just curious.

I have always wondered that too TBH, but like you, I have everything declared with Sky Insurance, who have always been excellent!

I would guess if something was to ever happen it would be down to you to prove the map took place prior to your ownership and you weren't aware.
 If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough

I had my highly modified Nissan insured with sky a few years back thought they where great so I took another policy out with them for my daily driver, I always declared my mods on the Nisan and my policy never went up, till I sold them both and bought a leon diesel, for some reason they were £100 per yr more than anyone else. They refused to budge on price and as good as forced me to leave

So i ended up leaving them

Back on topic

Declare all mods not matter how big or small,

iv never been to or on a rolling road so I might find a local tuner just for a power run and general diagnostic

That's a good example of "Wriggling" right there.
Innocent until proven doesn't apply to insurance it would seem.
Under the radar!

Each case would be looked at on it's own merit. If you are innocent of knowing your car was previously remapped then you should be ok, if you're running around in an obviously modified car and have a claim it'll probably be spotted.

What I swill say is that ignorance isn't necessarily bliss and if there is any doubt then take your car to an engineer and get it checked.

Sorry to hear that, we are a broker and do not dictate rates, if a rate is given to us, we can question it but ultimately it is not our decision if there can be any movement on the price.

Feel free to check back at any time.

From what everyone's saying, I think I may look at moving to sky insurance next!

Anyone who mods their car and then subsequently does not inform their ins company is a cretin.

What about the legality of the whole thing, or is there none? e.g you have to tell them as it is a modification, the wriggling out of a claim if there is one etc.
I caused 7 grands worth of self-inflicted damage to a re-mapped 1 series, it had plenty of visual mods too, and none of it was declared.

Insurance paid up no questions asked and it even went to BMW themselves for repair!

Food for thought.

I have always declared any mods, and I fancy a remap by I hate to think how much extra my insurance would be. I think I will leave it until next year :)
It may not be as much as you think, mine was about £30 extra for JB+, I emailed them the JB page showing the 30-40 hp extra statement.

Yer I know

Since this thread was brought back up

I ask sky insurance for a quote for my mum about 3-4 years ago on here micra
She had 12 or 13 years no claims bonus and they came back with over £900 lol
I got her fully comp for less than £325 using one of the search engines

I used to give out the leaflets from my work place but ended up putting them all in the bin after the ridiculous quotes they gave our customer

I called them to ask wtf is going and they just gave some excuses

I would definitely not use them ever

This is my experiences with them running a tuning company trying to help customers and my own mum
