PLEASE HELP - fog light error

Post by e87tallboyg » Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:50 pm

Got a problem I’m hoping someone may be able to help with. Got a BMW E87 2011. The brake lights are both working fine but on the drivers side the tail light isn’t lighting up along with fog. Passenger side is working fine. Tried swapping clusters round the issue is still their. Also getting a fog light bulb symbol on dash. Have tried coding error out with Carly but still comes up. Fuses are all ok and wiring seems fine from what I can see. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery and IBS sensor but still happening.

Has anyone got any suggestions. Theirs a £30 bank transfer in it for the person who finds the solution. Trying to avoid contacting the dealership at all costs as I’m sure they’ll want to replace light module which will be £££.

Email georgembailey@outlook.com or reply to thread but I don’t always pick it up.

Cheers

Most likely a short circuit counter issue - best way to find out is via remote diagnostics.

email or PM me if you want to do that.

Hi Wibbles. 2 different garages have said the light module needs replacing. Used Carly on it last year can this corrupt the software?

Yes, but the FRM (light module) tend to go bad for no particular reason.

Without getting another fitted from the stealers do you have any suggestions? Can they be reprogrammed or purchase reconditioned one? Got an electrician who can fit it..

as I said, remote diagnostics with ISTA is the only way to be sure if it is goosed.

I can code a new FRM remotely if required, had the same issue on an E92 M3 last week.

remote coding is always available.

alternator could be at fault - again, i would need to run diagnostics.

Fan heating temporarily cut out earlier and stereo was making a funny whirling noise on start up last night. Thinking it may be alternator..
