Have to ask SWMBO to check that out as she's the one who cleans the car

You are correct as my RHD 225xe has 1 under the glovebox. The owners handbook which is LHD only shows 3 power sockets.

That was good find HookyMan as I checked our 2 series convertible and there's and extra power socket under the glove box right side. I use the rear seat power sockets to power both radar detectors on both cars as the radar detectors do not need to be attached to the front wind screen to work well. One is in the try in the middle of the rear seat in our convertible and the other is in the tray under the centre arm rest on our 225xe.

Thanks HookyMan for that info. What a great find. I can't understand why BMW don't promote this feature. It's perfect for the power connection for my Brodit phone cradle, which is attached to the dashboard.

Is anybody aware of any reason why we shouldn't use this? For example, is this particular socket constantly draining power from the battery, even when the ignition is off?

I have my dashcam plugged into this socket. It definitely doesn't have a constant 12v feed. No danger of running your battery flat.

No reason not to use it, I've run a dash cam off of there for ages.
It's not ignition controlled, like the other sockets it powers up when you unlock the car and powers down a couple of minutes after you lock the car. Part of BMW's battery drain protection.
