BMW 2 series 2017 m sport no cruise

Post by Shortstockevs » Tue May 01, 2018 10:58 am

Hi all
Looking to buy the above.
BMW say the cruise can't be retrofitted so wouldn't help.

Can it be done and how much cost?
I will happily pay the going rate and travel

Ps 180d 150bhp , is this enough power as my merc is 204bhp but I really like the BMW just need cruise deal breaker
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris

Contact Craig (Wibbles - Enquiries@BRdiagnostics.co.uk) as he's one of the site sponsors and should easily be able to advise you on the way forward as this is one of the most common queries. Also check the following site: - http://babybmw.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=95 8)

Ive got cruise on my shadow, to be honest I dont often use it but I find I use 'limit' lots, i think its more useful than cruise. limit comes as standard on them.

Just another vote as per the last post.

I used to have an m135i with just cruise control and then when we got the Active Tourer and it had 'limit' only, I thought it was kind of a half solution / not what I was used to.

Then having changed the m135i to m140i which has both available, now I have both to choose between I pretty much never use cruise control anymore but always opt for the limit function instead whenever I would have used cruise - i.e. motorways with average speed cameras etc.

The main reason is that yes, cruise also keeps you at that speed without you having to use your foot to do so, but in traffic a lot of the times you have to slow down and actually brake rather than just come off the throttle and roll along, so you spend a chunk of time re-engaging cruise control anyway and it seems simpler / more effective to just have the limit to avoid getting speeding fines, but use your foot.

Have to admit though, until I had the option of / tried both, it always felt like an inferior option, but haven't used cruise pretty much at all since getting the new car.

Hope that helps.

2015 220i Active Tourer
2013 m135i (now gone)

I'm surprised that it doesn't have Cruise as standard.
Even my 2017 F45 218i SE Manual has Cruise and Limit as standard.

A comment on the LIMIT function:
If you put your foot down, the limit function is over-ridden, so having the limit set to 30 then accelerating forward in traffic you may find yourself doing over 30.
This is useful if you want to overtake without cancelling the limit, but caught me by surprise the first time I found out.

Chris

When we ordered ours in September 2014 I've got to admit that didn't have Cruise as standard although did have Limit on the wheel, same scenario with regard to PDC despite arguing the toss with BMW we were unable to have front pdc due to the M Sport bumper! Needless to say nothing surprises me at all these days regarding BMW whereas our GLA 45 has everything fitted as standard so no longer concerned. 8)
