And they didn’t deny any warranty claim (as he didn’t have one). If the claim would be related to the paintwork they would honor the warranty.
As said flashing back to stock and resetting the counter would prevent premature worry and upset.

Long as it is not live linked and not serious stuff your probably OK...

If the car is live linked to BMW AG though for any reason (does not have to be drive train related) dealer could just query ABS system or anything at all with BMW HQ .Read it all his car is effectively flagged and tagged and the warranty is compromised by BMW AG not the dealer...

Makes you wonder though when you are buying second hand though what you are buying though stock or altered and then coming a cropper at the dealers via an innocent query by a dealer later like the m3cutters dude..
There must be more to the story as why did the dealer dig so deep. A wild guess is that the car was flagged before (when it was running the tune) and that flag got the dealer to dig deeper/ contact the mother ship.
For a normal software update they would not waste time digging around trying to find any evidence

Dunno i don't think it helped the owner whining about the power to the dealer he doomed himself effectively by them querying his cars performance etc, does not stop the fact though you can come a cropper with bMW HQ and such live links when buying altered cars second hand through no fault of your own or altering them yourself power wise......

It says in that thread they looked into it as the owner said his car was now massively under powered compared to before bmw done a software update for him. He wasn't just caught by chance, he had asked them to look into the problem.

Anyway back on topic 😂

Put another 130 miles on it today since the map, the extra power is hugely noticeable in 2nd and 3rd. Definitely got to time full throttle off a roundabout right 😂

Even at part throttle there's definitely more power there, boost seems to come in harder too 👌

I am not completely sure that is fair... I have given a very honest breakdown above of how this works; and what’s done.. I’ve explained it’s very difficult for the dealer to see (nor do they usually care!) and I’ve explained that you need to take into consideration there’s always a ‘what if’ and the fact that you shouldn’t commit warranty fraud.

We can’t do much else - it’s not our car, nor our decision to make!

JP @ DervTech
do you use something to hide the fact that the ecu has been flashed or do you use some find of patch to stop the counter ?

Both. The flash tools we use here, and the remote tools will correct the checksum, so it matches that of which the dealer is expecting, and also reset the flash counter.

When you flash back to stock, or flash a tune in this process is followed.
thanks for the info .

Hi,

Does the cable not come included? This is something has to be purchased? If so, any links to the correct one for an M140i?

They offered it to me too but I declined as shipping to the US would be nonsense

Just updated my car yesterday ... got lots of errors (which might have been from the Dinan Sport which I removed at the same time) when I scanned > deleted all and no light in the dash so far.
Cold weather so no WOT (or anything close to that) but the throttle lag in comfort from a dead stop is gone and it feels more powerful and responds to small inputs.
Happy camper

What update mate ?

I also notice this "lag" in comfort is gone from my car. Maybe the accelerator have adapted in a way. My car is just like drive Original but pulls harder in Comfort. In sport mode its still crazy :)

Hopefully I get the BCS midepipe next week, the sound will be really nice with this and MPE !

Quick update. Had my car on dyno today and we'll impressed, put my mpss tyres back on yesterday and it was still spinning up in 3rd.

Ran 389hp at wheels which should equate to 457ho at fly with 15% tranny loss.

478lb/ft of torque too.

Afrs are pretty much same as stock soo all is good.

Good stuff!

Those plots you sent me look perfect.

Just FYI, that AFR is quite a bit richer than stock up to the red line. A stock b58 will pretty much run stoich (14.7) up to the red line or until it hits cat protection mode. Notice yours goes richer much earlier in the pull, this keeps the EGT down and helps suppress knock to allow for more timing.

Thanks.
