Hi,

How often do the diff and gearbox oils need to be changed? Mine's on ~28-29k miles so far, 2010 E87 123D MSport. Thanks

BMW's line is that the oils don't ever need to be changed. In reality, all oils wear and need replacing, so I would say replacing the oils at 50k or every 3-4 years is sensible in BMWs.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

I last bought my gearbox & diff oil from you 4 years ago. The time has come to change it again, as I've done 50k since then. Last time I bought 2 litres of Redline MTL for the gearbox and 1 litre of 75w90 GL5 for the diff. Prior to changing the oil I had a sticky 2nd gear but since the oil change it's been fine. The car has now done 136,000 miles so I only want the best stuff to prolong it. If there anything better than the Redline?

Make: BMW
Model: 120D
Year: 2008
Manual/Auto: Manual
Performance Modifications: None.
Driving style: (road / off-road / track etc.) Road/motorway.
Any other information that may be relevant: e.g. approx BHP if modified, any transmission problems Initially sticky 2nd gear.
What recommendation are you looking for? Gearbox, diffs, limited slip diffs, transfer boxes etc. Gearbox & diff.

Hi

If you are happy with the Red Line, stick with it, it's about as good as oil gets.
