Re: Question... Turbocharger vs Supercharger?

more reliable to sell yours and buy a 135i? It could do horrible things to the car's residual value too, should you ever want to sell it. Im guessing these people are either a) 16, b) multimillionaires or c) have no idea whats involved in major engine surgery, why does this question keep coming up?...

Re: Manual/auto. May have changed my mind

I’m the other way, can learn and have done pretty much everything, including rebuilding a 205 gti from the ground up. It’s surprisingly easy doing most car jobs if you have the right tools. Speaking as someone who managed to set a car on fire trying to relocate a wiring loom and then blew the head ...

Re: Manual/auto. May have changed my mind

What’s worrying me is that because of my lack of experience in autos, how do I know on a test drove if it’s running ok. If there are any faults present the car should tell you and I dont think theres anything particularly to worry about regarding failures. Sad to say but the new auto boxes are so g...

Re: BHP and Torque

The area under the curve is more important than how high it goes, if badly remembered GCSE physics still serves Work = Force*Distance and force is effectively the area under your power curve.

Re: HELP! UK E82 diesel to N54

Fook. They want to charge you per year what the car's worth in the first place? Sounds like a rort to me, the unintended consequence of compulsory insurance. Is 3rd party only insurance a thing over there? 3rd party liability is what he will be paying the money for, the old bus full of trainee doct...

Re: EBC Pads & Motul RBF660 Fluid

The physical change is easy, if youve done it before on similar calipers youll be fine.
There are much better pads than yellowstuff for track use though, look into Ccarbotech, CL, Pagid RSL29.
Conversely RBF660 isnt really necessary, RBF600 does the job and is cheaper too :)

For those comparing British motorways to the German Autobahn... The Autobahn is generally kept in MUCH better condition than British motorways. If you look at the area around the central reservation & hard shoulders, they're usually FILTHY in the UK. God knows what kind of debris you find there. If...

You need to code in RECA+ IIRC, search on here for it - I did it when I fitted BMWP seats to mine :)

Re: E92 M3 rear end on to 130i

I have an E82 135i with an E92 diff, didnt do the whole subframe though mainly as you finish up with rear brakes bigger than your fronts ........ 1 - Apparently driveshafts can seize - Is this common? Are they worth replacing even if they appear ok? They're going to be dealing with substantial...

I think they also hold the wastegate open aswell
Yep, this, understand its to heat the cats. Sounds filthy but not really conducive to getting down the road

My N54 has an MPE on it (N55 midpipe) and its spot on as a compromise between noise and cruise :)

£10K for an N54 conversion? No way, thats kind of what I was getting at - the gearbox, engine mounts, loom and all the hardware are already there, and engine is about £3K. Make it a singe turbo and map it so the torque comes in later and I reckon youd have change against an SC install and managemen...
