Another PDC issues thread

Post by narbles »

Morning all,

So my 130i rear parking sensors were working just after I got it, then started working only intermittently then stopped working completely.

I've done the following:

1) Listened for clicking from rear PDC sensors (there is none)
2) Checked the fuse (it is fine)
3) Taken out the rear trim and checked where the PDC control unit lives (it is dry)
4) Plugged in a cable and linked to INPA.. unable to establish connection with PDC unit

What are my options/next steps here? Don't really want to be sourcing a new PDC unit unless it is last resort. Any other checks I've missed?

Battery is original at 15 years old from the look of it!

Reversing lights are on, forgot to mention that - where is the switch and how could it be that?

if the lights are on then there's a good chance that the switch is good.

Does the car have stop start ?

Okay good to know I guess. No it doesn't have stop/start.

Well we have a culprit, circuit board looks in bad shape. Suppose I should have taken this out originally but it was bone dry. Looks like water must have got in at some point then dried out. There was also blue corrosion on one of the pins in the black connector to the unit too.

Assuming this means new PDC unit required?

Thanks, I found an exact replacement off eBay for 20 quid claiming to be in full working order with a warranty. Not bad really but I'll bear that company in mind as didn't know they existed, thanks for your help :)

Why do you think it is identical? Part number is not all. PDC is programmable module. It must be from same equipped car to work with your car. Main problem is sound. If you had sound from car speaker and donner from buzzer you got problem:( also you should code VIN to unit, but without proper VIN it will work.

The unit off eBay had all of the same numbers on it as mine, another thread on here said that if you get exact replacement then no coding required.

Just an update on this one to close it off and if anyone arrives here from a Google search. The second hand PDC unit for £20 off eBay fixed the issue. Not a bad result. As you can see from the image I posted it's clearly the PDC unit at fault as there's some fairly sever corrosion that ate through one of the chips (see bottom mid-right). New unit was literally plug and play and the PDC sprung in to action. :spotman:
