hi guys

im new to the forum but have analysed your mods quite alot. i have bmw e90 320d and dont have anyone on e90 forums who has done this mod ie ssk on a diesel so i took the risk. i followed your guide and went all ok....changed gearbox oil and diff oil to redline performance.

however i still get crunchy gear vhanges and at times i have to push gears harder from 5th to 4th or to 3rd...is it due shorter gear shift. im using same gear knob and gaiter. mstyle said with most ssk they hit driveshaft nut once installed is this true?

A short shift kit will make changes harder / notchier.

Lots of members have retained their standard gearknob and gaitor, as the alacantara doesn't go with every interior.

so the driveshaft nut should not be catchin u think?

i also fitted cltch stop with steel washers which compliment shifting a lot but the gearbox was notchy before i fitted it...do you think over time time the gear shift will get better...i noticed when its warmer it shifts up really well but dropping gears its really notchy...

It should pull up once the plastic locators have disengaged from the metal housing. Can you see that they are clear ?

Try rotating it another 90 degrees. The locators in the metal hub are elongated.

I use an L shaped piece of thick wire / thin rod.

Slot it through the loop of the clip, then release it with something else. It is a bit like doing keyhole surgery, but not impossible.

Cheers for the tips, All on, looks great and shifts very nice, nearly as good as my old civic. Much easier to rev match on downshift as can throw it in nicer, bit grease on the ball joint has helped make it like new again.

Great how2.

Ant fitted the kit to his car, then removed it and sold me said car.

Then I bought the ssk off him and had to go through the same procedure on this thread.

All went fairly smoothly but took over an hour. This was due to the really annoying circlip which is so hard to reach. Getting it off without dropping it was painfully slow...

...until I had to refit and that was even harder. No space in there! Glad I had some string temporarily looped round the clip as I dropped it about 3 times.

Fitted one of these today and now with run running and driving the gear knob is constantly shaking around, any ideas lads ?
