No, £3k optional extra.

Maybe 1% of M135i have one, as a pure guess.
Arr ok cheers for that

Just about to change my quaife oil after 20k miles. I did the first change after bed in and got a dimple plug, it's been a while. Do I need another crush washer?
And lastly, I accidently ordered 75 140 oil, will it matter too much or shall I send back and get the 75 90?
Cheers

My Dimple came with a couple of spare crush washers, did you only get the one?

75w140 will be fine, it's great oil.

I got a feeling it did come with a couple, I'll check the garage. That's a relief on the oil. If I can't find the washer would the old washer be ok again?

If it's oil-tight, it will be fine. If it leaks, not so much. I can't guarantee either eventuality.

Just want to say a big thanks to Marco for the guide. Changed my oil today. Old stuff was black, thin and horrible after only 20k.

Mag plug fitted too. Very quick job. Only trouble was getting under the car is a slight pain in the arse but just enough room to get it done.

Used castrol syntrax 75w90 longlife GL5 for my standard diff.

As requested by a couple of people....

This is a guide for changing your differential oil, this relates directly to a M135i, but I'm sure it would be a very similar procedure for any BMW. I did mine laying behind my car in the street in a few minutes.

Before you start, you'll need a litre of GL5 diff oil; a pair of rubber gloves (unless you prefer the spare bed), a 14mm Allen Key or similar; something to catch the old oil in; and tool/method for refilling the diff, here's my kit:

photo 2 20_zpsyvqxjttq.JPG

I'm using 75w140 LSD oil for my clutch-type Drexler LSD, but 99% of people will only need a 75w90 GL5 (including Quaifes). Notice the Oil Gun, basically a big syringe, which makes things very easy. About £5 on fleaBay.

I'm fitting a Magnetic 'Dimple' diff plug today, M22x1.5mm, 9mm thread. http://shop.motorsport-developments.co. ... -788-p.asp. This is particularly important if you fit a Quaife, as they're known to create quite a bit of metal dwarf inside when running in from new.

Diff 2.jpg

Start by popping your gloves on (old gear oil is nasty stinky stuff). Position a tray / plastic sheet under the diff ( to save your driveway - although you really won't drop much ) then remove the plug.

Next, suck the old oil out using the suction gun. After only 20k, mine was pitch black and a bit thin. It's doubtful you'll get 100% of the old oil out, but 900ml is easy enough to extract in 4 or 5 pulls.

Bear cleanliness in mind, you don't want to knock any crud inside at any stage, or you could do more harm than good.

Refill the diff with roughly 1 litre of nice new golden oil. :) I simply sucked it out of the bottle, and blew it into the fill hole. When it's full, it will just start trickling out again.

Refit your plug and torque to 60Nm / 44 lbft, done!

Marco does the E82 135i use the same diff oil?

I've been looking for dimple magnetic diff plugs Marco but looks like they have been dropped, do you recommend any other brands that are as good?

Also Cotswold are saying I should use BMW synthetik OSP but I take it that Castrol Syntrax Longlife 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Car Gearbox Oil - Formerly SAF-XO - 1 Litre would do the job fine?

Is 1 litre of oil enough for the change or do you need just over?

Whatever you get out, replace. It's very hard to get much more than 900ml out with no drain though.
