For DIY jobs definitely the 2k lacquer BUT there is no such thing as a totally clear lacquer and if the BMW one is OE then that may be the best one to use. Also remember that once you've released the valve on the 2K lacquer, it's got a short shelf life.

I would also experiment with the cans to see which has the best spray pattern and how quickly it sprays.

I'd go for a thin coat of 2K. I'd heat the can up first by sitting it on some warm water (increases the pressure for a better mist).

Have used the BMW clearcoat on a wing mirror scuff before, the spray pattern was crap, lots of splatter. As above, test before using on your ‘good’ piece.

The easiest/best finish I can get from normal rattle cans is Halfords stuff
The bmw one is just 1k clear so nothing special
The 2k one if it’s polyurethane is highly toxic and you need to do some research on it before using it

Thanks for all the replies, the warm water trick I’ll remember for when I come to use it

Warming the paint is useful but also warming the part works well even just a hair drier is enough
