Exhaust issue. Rattle or crackle?

Post by eddieb27 »

Hi.

Wondered if anyone had a similar issue with their exhaust on start up. Thinking it might be a catalytic converters issue?

Heard of many owners complain of the dreaded rattle on the standard exhaust on the M240/M140

M240i with standard exhaust.

Car is 3 years old in October, so still under warranty if it is classed as a warranty issue.

Problem only seems to be on start up, it then settles down.

Any help appreciated!

Ed

Think you've posted in the wrong section bud.
Is the noise coming from the left hand side where the flap is?
Hard to gauge in the video. Sounds more like a heat shield rattle near the backbox. The flap sounds like spoons pinging off it. If that makes sense.

M135i/M140i/M235i/M240i... I dunno if it matters now though 🤣
Or f22 etc..
If its a heat shield the warranty should sort it. If its the flap. Most folk have unplugged them or put more tension back in the spring thats between the flap motor and the flap.
Warranty will also cover the flap, they replaced my backbox and had to go back to have it readjusted and it still doesn't sit right. In hindsight should of just unplugged it.

Cheers. Fingers crossed it gets covered under warranty. It’s going in on Friday

Turned out to be a wire spring clip missing on the tailpipe flap.
All sorted and no cost involved
