Best cleaning product for sapphire black?

Post by Justchris17 »

As per title I’ve tried multiple products on my black 135i but doesn’t matter what I use and how quick I dry ect it’s always left streaky and with swirls and it’s annoying! What products should I use?

Plus what is best to use on my alloys I can’t quite get moulded on dirt/brake dust off?

Or is it more cost effective to just get car detailed?

A quick detailer can be really useful for removing water marks / streaks.

What products have you tried?

My others half’s 13 year old 116 came up really well a few weeks ago.

Washed, dried, decontaminated with Car Pro Trix, washed and dried again, clayed, machine polished, glazed with Auto Finesse and two coats of Dodo Juice Supernatural. It looks mint from a few paces away but there are still plenty of marks on the paint (we bought the car from her parents who weren’t big on washing it).

That looks lovely, good job! I’ve never machine polished before is it hard to do? I will look into all that gear you mentioned. Do you think you will get the rest of the marks out with further cleaning?

I can’t remember off the top of my head the names as I’m not currently home as I left for work this morning but what I’ve got is all sourced from Asda so don’t think it’s anything decent.

Cheers.

I’ve got a DA polisher because they’re safer to use, so less likely to really screw it up. They’re not as powerful as the polished used by professional detailers but they can and do make a difference.

I tend to buy my stuff online from the likes of Slim’s Detailing (you earn points from those guys which equals money off). Dodo Juice products are pretty good and not too expensive and easy to use. Careful though....it’s a slippery slope! :lol;

OP, for what you want, I'd probably buy just 2 extra products.

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel (or Korrosol), and
Sonax BSD for the paintwork streaks/watermarks.

Inexpensive, easy to use products which give great results every time, without needing experience or effort.

If it's very swirly, maybe substitute Poorboys Blackhole for the BSD as that contains black fillers.

Unfortunately BSM, like all black paint, is a massive pain in the arse to maintain. Can recommend ceramic coatings to help reduce likelihood of swirls but they won’t eliminate all together (used Gyeon Syncro on the 1M and now CarPro Cquartz on the M135i). Water marks also easier to remove.

Best quick detailers I’ve used are Gyeon and Bouncers Done n Dusted
Another thumbs up for Poorboys Blackhole - hides swirls really well and removes some water marks.

Sorry to go on again but I’ve seen stuff like pre wash snow foams, shampoo, clay bars, polish etc

Can someone provide a list of what order everything is done in?

Have you already finished Blackroc's 6 guides in here?

Here is the order I do things in for a full detail Chris:

Rinse with jetwash
Apply snow foam
Spray wheels with fallout remover
Agitate fallout with wheel brush and rinse
Rinse car with jetwash
Shampoo car with Ph neutral shampoo
Rinse with jetwash
Dry car with xl drying towel
Clay bar using clay lube
Shampoo car
Rinse car
Dry car
D/A 2-stage polish
1st with Meguiars Ultimate Compound on microfibre pad to remove swirls and light scratches
2nd with Meguiars Ultimate Polish on soft foam pad
Poorboys Black Hole glaze applied and buffed off
2 coats of my favourite ’Waxaddict’ wax
Finish off with Sonax BSD

If just doing a maintenance wash then I skip the clay bar, d/a polish and Black Hole but I always use Sonax BSD as it helps prevent water marking which is a pita on Black cars...

A few pics (not all from the same detailing session though):

It’s a stunning thing anyway...I went with an uncle to poke around TH Boller last summer after a C&M breakfast and the thing I got distracted by the most was an orange one of these despite being surround by 458’s etc.
