Are the M135i mirror covers just pull off jobies?

Take delivery on tuesday and ive got all the Gtechniq cleaning and sealing stuff money can buy aswell as a big roll of ventureshield ready to apply, now ive never liked cutting wrap on cars so was wondering how to remove the mirror covers to apply the ventureshield? Some guides are saying they just prise off others that its al ost a complete mirror removal?

Also on a side note ive seen a few of tye M135i's with the M stickers on the side skirts, are these ordered from BMW and do they apply them?

I had my mirror covers replaced with black ones, because I didn't like the grey ones. It took a whole day (took the car in at 7.30am) for them to do it, because they broke the glass on one mirror, while trying to remove the cover. And had to order the new glass.

So to sum up I'd say it's not that easy.

Cheers, might go for the carbon ones but just need to find some sensibly priced, I'm by no means a scrooge but £400 for mirrors is quite frankly stupid, a few times I've sourced various far eastern carbon products and although occasionally you get a crock part generally I've found the difference between OEM rip off cost parts and the asian ones barely noticable.

I had a set of BMWP carbon ones on my previous 130i and loved when the sun was shining on them as you could really see the weave!

Hence why I got them for my current car... yet to put them on yet though

Agree that they are expensive!! You can get cheap covers that go over the OEM ones but they are not quite flush and sometimes fit is not perfect but I decided why cheapen your car?

Yeah true and you can always sell them on. BMW performance parts will all be added to my car over the next few months bar the spoiler which i think is a bit of a joke, shouldn't even be classed as a spoiler IMO needs something that will protrude out a bit more and break up the flat back backside of the car, may go down the shnitzer route which is what I'm after but that will need painting so another £100 on top of the £300 for the spoiler.

The covers pop off in seconds. I removed mine, painted them and refitted them in under 2 hours.

What was your removal method Chap?

I used a trim tool (just a plastic wedge)

Starting along the top edge, working from the outermost side towards the middle then the innermost

As I separated the the first section, used another trim tool to stop the two section popping back into place. The pulled the whole top edge forwards and downward simultaneously.

I'd worry about them getting nicked, they are so easy to remove.I think there's an after market company that requires you to screw them in place. But the genuine BMW ones are just pop on

I've just had a quick scan of the F30 document, is it just hose 3 little catches which stops it falling off?

The F2x BMWP ones actually have 3 screws with washers that fix them in place so not eaily nicked unless you force them off and do some damage!

I recall my previous ones on my 130i just pulled off so was easy to nick... luckily it didn't happen!

Yep. Just a few barbs hold them on.

The OEM BMWMP CF caps are screwed on.

That's good to know. I thought it was the aftermarket that were.

The real choker to the price of the BMW CF mirror covers is i know exactly how hard it is to make them, i done these from scratch and purely by hand with a mould and CF Weave, it was my first attempt and the process by hand is very long but only costs about £30 for two wing mirrors, you can buy vacuum machines to do the job which reduce the time by about 2/3 and get rid of any surface imperfections that you get by hand, they only cost about £500. There is no reason especially with the dicounts BMW must get on materials why they couldnt make the M performance ones for around £15 for the pair which is about a 2600% mark up !! Lol
