Finally got my 120d Sport rear suspension sorted! Took the car back to Cotswold BMW for a check up on the rear suspension and they discovered that during the PDI they had not removed the suspension transportation blocks so the rear end was totally solid!

Handles and rides really well now!

Anyone nailed it yet? I'm a patient chap but getting really hacked off at the constant bumping and banging from the back end now. There are days when I wish I'd saved a fortune and just bought a basic Golf (I recently had one on rent and it was bloody good!)

Spoke to my dealership today (again)....and vented my frustration with them regarding the bumping noise.

Apparently BMW tech people are trying to devise a solution, albeit they can't find anything structurally wrong with any cars.

This is one of many problems that i've had with the F20....and beginning to wish I'd waited and bought the new Audi A3 or Volvo V40!

Sorry for you! My F20 is problem free except for this "bumping" noice. Still frustrating though - really hope the will come up with a solution shortly.

What other problems are you suffering from?

I have had meeting with my dealership as a result of letter I issued within these last two weeks and a technical case re my car has been raised direct with Germany who I am advised are working on a resolution. There appears to be a number of cars with similar problem in UK - hopefully a resolution will be forthcoming soon.
Any further information I receive I will post on forum.

Anyone with an Msport had this problem? Or is it specifically SEs/ whatever...
3 weeks in, only 300 miles covered but not heard it yet on our M Sport
Picked mine up this time last week, covered 700 miles and not a squeak. If the msports don't do it what does this leave? Suspension?

just received car back from garage after admin **** up last week and problem appears to have been fixed - new rear shock absorbers, top mountings and bushes to both sides all replaced in the presence of BMW UK Tech. Man. So far all seems to be ok so I would suggest you guys with similar problem should be in touch with your dealership as I understand from my meeting today that BMW Germany are aware of this problem and that all cars from now on will include this amendment. I am advised my car was the first in the UK to have these amended parts installed so hopefully no more problems.
Good luck to others in getting this problem fixed

My 2008 3 door 120i had an annoying knock in the rear of the car, turned out to be the battery 'lid' in the boot rattling. I fixed it with some Velcro. If the new 1 series has the same type of battery cover I would fix it down just in case.

I've also had my car fixed for this yesterday. I live in Sweden and my first contact with the dealer in this question was in February - took some time, uhh? Hopefully it is OK but hard to tell without any bumpy roads. Time will tell...

I have a 116d, which is manufactured 4/2012. I have a 1400 km now and I first time heard the noise, until now has always been about half the fuel in the tank and there is no noise. I filled it full and consumed after approximately 1/8 fuel and then heard the bump bump from trunk. Noise has disappeared as the fuel is still consumed. Perhaps this is the mysterious noise. Greetings from Croatia.
